About

What are we about?  Simply, to give you the reader selected Affiliate related material that you can either act upon or mentally file for future reference.  It helps me to organise ‘Stuff’ of my own too and I have deliberately made sure that the url includes WordPressBlog because it positively identifies it.

WordPress is free.  Go to WordPress.org and find out about how you can have one of your own.  Frankly, I think that they are better than websites because they are so easy to maintain, update and more importantly collect valuable feedback from the reader.  They are also very SEO friendly.

If you struggle with websites, this is a breeze in comparison and you should aim to have your WordPress Blog hosted on your own server.  ”Your own Server” means paying a “Host” company like GoDaddy or preferably a company with a really good support setup.  I haven’t found one yet…

What you need is:

  • An ISP ~ An Internet Service Provider.  If you are going to be serious about being online, you need your own connection to the internet.  This may sound obvious to you if you are reading this at home but a lot of people use Internet Cafe’s.  There are successful entrepreneurs in many parts of the world who run their businesses from these places but if you can get your own connection, so much the better.

  • Domain Name Registrar ~ I use EuroDNS.  These companies hold the names of websites registered in your name that you think are a good idea because they fit with what your desired subject: BabyClothes.com DogMeat.com GreatRestaurants.co.uk and so on.  Try and keep your domain names in a separate company from your hosting company…
  • Host Provider ~ A company that allows you to load your files into a web space (Server space) so that they can be accessed by other internet users around the world.  These files are typically a website or a blog.  The name you want to look out for in terms the software that your “Host” uses in their “Servers” is Linux.  A “Server” is a box of electronics like your computer if you have a PC.  It acts to ’serve’ you information and others information when a particular piece of information is requested.
  • Website creation software or a blog.  Both WordPress and Google ‘host’ their own versions of their blog software so you simply set up a free account with them and use the blog straight away. WordPress allows you to download your own copy the blog and ‘host’ it in your own web space, on your own web server .  This is the preferred choice.
